Introduction to Measurments

The purpose of discipline "Introduction to engineering measurements" is the study of methods for measurement of physical values, the basic principles of instruments operation, theory of uncertainties and methods to reduce them. After studying the course students should be able to use elementary measuring instruments and interpret measurement results.

Metrology is the science of measurement methods and means to ensure their traceability, and desired accuracy. The course emphasizes role of metrology among general methods of science. The essence of measurement techniques and skills to implement them using simple means of measurement are main objectives. Special attention is paid to the following topics: "Measurement uncertainties", "Measurement data processing". Informational concept of measurements introduced as well. Sequence of operations in metrological instrumentation studied. In the section "Measuring equipment" structure, function and AD-DA conversions are studied. National system of measurement traceability is reviewed.
